Improv Link Up Coming Soon

Back in January, Kaja mentioned the need for an improv online group. That little remark caught my attention, not because it's in my wheelhouse {as it is in Kaja's}, but because I've been circling around improvisation for several years. New things are easier with others working on the same topic.

We've been tossing ideas back and forth this year. As Kaja pointed out, it's not exactly improv if we give you a set of parameters. And there are already many books that embrace improvisational quilting. Two published in the past year are Cultural Fusion Quilts and The Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters. The linky will focus on discussion and encouragement to build knowledge and confidence in this art form. We plan monthly posts about specific methods, styles, inspirational sources, books, and even exhibits.

We named this adventure Ad Hoc Improv Quilting (AHIQ.)  Kaja liked including IQ; I'm partial to the AH.

Ah, IQ      ...        AHI Quilting      ...        AHIQ

I hope you'll join us.

Enjoy the day, Ann

I'm looking forward to your AHIQ! Such a fun name.:) I feel like a baby when it comes to improv. Much to learn!

There certainly is a skill set to it, isn't there? I'm so glad you're interested.

I'm so glad you're interested in this little adventure, Maureen. We had a wild few months just passing names back and forth. Even our families were involved. If that's any indication of the future, this should be a riot. ;-)

Yes, let's! I'm so glad you're up for more experiments.

I read your comment on Kaja's. Sounds like you have the spirit of improv... with perhaps a bit of angst. I think it could all fit if you want to try it.

I'm finding it an interesting departure from my previous work.

I know what you mean. It can be hard to take the first step.

I love that you two are doing this Ann - you are my very favorite improv quilters! I have the Improv Handbook and am so impressed, but can't seem to make the time to dive in. I will be watching and learning along with you!

I hope you'll join in. Your work is always well-conceived and well done. (You artist!)

How kind of you, Lara. I'm glad you'll be watching. Perhaps you'll try it sometime, too.
