Back to the Scientific Pinwheels

I'm home for a couple of weeks for some rest and recuperation. At least I thought it would be that. DH mentions the scientific baby quilt several times a week and it is time to finish it up.

Home has a design wall so the first thing was to lay it out again.

I wasn't happy with the pinwheels as the inner border and thought the quilt could use a quiet area. Then I quickly added more pinwheels in dark to balance the inside and outside. Good enough.

Next was to make some quick Chinese Coins for the inner border. Driven by the design wall, it seemed they should be soft and light. Like this.

And just as I was congratulating myself on an "original" design, I read Audrey's post at Quilty Folk. Look. Almost the same quilt. Nothing new under the sun; just variations on a theme.

Enjoy the day, Ann

I once heard that all art is like a good remix tape. I think your mix is great!

I had to go back to Audrey's blog to see what you were talking about. I would never have associated the two quilts if you hadn't mentioned it. It's just a matter of hue in the borders and I think your version is dynamic and lovely.

That is so true that there is really nothing new under the sun. Love, love finding things that connect us to one another in our quilting--I think that's the way it's probably always been! I once took a pattern that I wanted to make and expanded the design, drew up a little thing of what I wanted it to look like. Didn't get it made but later saw the exact same thing over at my sisters! We had never discussed it but had the same idea for that original pattern! I really like the breathing room in your pinwheel quilt and those bright red strips are so joyful and sparky. What a perfect touch.

Glad you are home for a bit with your design wall and your own surroundings. Here's to R and R, no matter what form it takes.

Great minds think alike! And they are very different in their sameness. Both quite lovely!

Oh my word. I can't tell you how many times I come up with something then see someone with it in a show after that! I sure like what you've done. Such a simple block and with the right mix of colors and contrast looks so artistic.

Yes, it's good to hear you're home for some rest, Ann.
I like the scrappy goodness of your pinwheels with the hour glass blocks in the middle.

Thanks, Patty. I like your way of looking at it.

What a fun point of view - a remix tape. Love it, Em.

I'd just started my top when I read Audrey's post so her layout struck me. Very similar to mine. Both are medallions with dark centers, light inner border, colorful outer borders. I like them both.

Don't you love that you and your sister think alike! I didn't see yours till mine was well underway but immediately noticed both are medallions with dark centers and white inner borders. That breathing space helps both our quilts so much.

It is a relief to be home for a while. I need the break.

Thanks, Maureen.

Thanks, Karen. There are only so many ways to sew fabric together but I was amused to see we had such similar layouts.

Thanks, LeeAnna. Your work is so artistic. It means a lot that you find something to admire in mine. Truly, there is nothing new under the sun.

You noticed, Janie. I chose hourglass for the center because four make one pinwheel. The little pinwheels did turn out well, didn't they. I had doubts halfway through. And I'm so glad to have some time to recharge.

Love your scrappy pinwheels! (how big are they?) And enjoy your time at home.

It's good to be back although stuff keeps popping up. What a treat to see you last week, too.

Those outer pinwheels are about 4 inches. It's great to be home. Sad to be selling a family home though. You know about that with your recent move. How's that gone? Are you all done? Do you like your new house?
