May Quilty365

The sewing machine is back in working order but we've been traveling most of the month, both for business and family. Hours on the road gave me enough time to catch up the circles but now I've stressed a finger and wrist. This may be my last month of Quilty365. I've been thinking about adding several borders so six months of circles may be enough.

Quilty365 April blocks

The April AHIQ linkup is still open. Lots of great posts to read, too.

Of course, this post is linked to Audrey's Quilty Folk. So many good versions of this simple idea. Take a look.

Enjoy the day, Ann

My goodness Ann, how wonderful and what a project ... I really have enjoyed your colour combinations and patterns xxx Simone

These are just beautiful ! :) I hope your wrist feels better soon. That happens to me with hand applique sometimes then I have to wear a sports brace or carpal tunnel brace for a few days and lay off the hand work.

Your circles are so bright and cheerful, I'm looking forward to seeing how your final quilt turns out. Hope your soreness goes away soon.

I decided from the beginning to stay with six months of circles so I could add borders and not have a too-huge finish. The colors in your version are so happy. I'm sending healing wishes your way.

I completed one lap sized circles quilt and now cant motivate myself for another batch. I'm dithering over a colour scheme so figure I need a break myself. Suspect I will return to the circles when the creative gene kicks in again lol
Yours are divinely fresh and bright, looking forwards to seeing your edges now : )

Your circles are beautiful Ann! I can't come to see your blog without flipping out over the way you combine fabrics and I just did it again! LOL
I hope some rest gets your wrist and finger healed again and feeling great.

I like your fabric choices. Hand stitching can be rough. Warmth and working with fingerless gloves helps.

Beautiful project--like the background colors a lot; I had to drop the 365 also--just too much stress for me right now--but I do think it is a wonderful project that many are enjoying....hugs, Julierose

The circles on the soft blue are so warm and bright - but sorry to hear about the stressed finger and wrist, hope they improve quickly and I second the comment from Deb that a carpal runnel support would certainly help the wrist issues.

So sorry to hear about your wrist and finger. I can imagine telling hubby and friends that I stressed an appendage quilting. Hopefully you'll be able to pick it up again later when you've healed. These are so pretty that it will be disappointing not to see more. I love the variety and the fussy cut pictures. What a great idea for an "I Spy" quilt.

So many pretty circles Ann. Love the lady on day 6. I hope you heal quickly.

What lovely circles, and I adore the color of your background squares!

I think the blue backgrounds make your circles so fresh and summery, I can see them working with borders. I'm so far behind with my circles I don't know what to do... Your decision to call it a day at 6 months sounds sensible. I hope your pain goes soon :(

I like your varied fabrics, both the blue backgrounds, and the circles create a lively whole. I'm sorry to hear about your injury, let's hope it mends soon.

I'm delighted you are on the mend, Simone.

Thanks, Deb. I have a sports brace but probably need to a new one. Mine works for both hands, sort of. As you wrote, staying away from hand work helps, too.

Thanks. I like them. These medium bright blues have been very attractive to me for the last few years. I'd love to do the house in beachy colors but DH is not such a fan. Still, I'll have this quilt.

Thanks, Julie. My hand has improved so much. I wish I'd pre-determined when to stop. I did calculate the finished size and thought it would be pretty large. But then I just started sewing. Like you, I'm getting more interested in multiple borders on this.

It has been fun to see all the color variations of everyone's circles and backgrounds. Each time I think, "Gosh, I'd like to do one this way." But it may be time to use the color schemes for another quilt.

Thanks, Lara. Many of these are scraps from previous quilts or (more common lately) cuts from what I'm currently working with. I'm looking forward to a new way to applique that will hopefully be much better for my hands. ;-)

I hadn't considered fingerless gloves, Janie. I'll have to give them a try sometime.

Thanks Julie Rose. I was surprised I kept up (fairly well) with the project. But I sew in batches. Many of these were done during the evening news, more during baseball game commercials and loads during travels. Unfortunately, I'm finding handwork hard on my wrist. Not sure if I need to build up muscle or find a different way to work.

Thanks, Maureen. I like my soft blues. But then I like everyone else's color choices, too. Wish I could have them all! I've been wearing the support constantly, including to bed, and it seems to help a lot.

Ha ha! Stress from quilting. They won't be able to keep a straight face. I like everyone's choices for these circles - both the fussy cut pictures and the pieced scraps. It amazes me how interesting this simple project becomes in the hands of so many different quilters.

Ann said...

Thanks. I'm happy with the background, too.

Thanks, Shasta. The lady is almost the last of that fabric. I used it in Propellers and Planes. Had a great time organizing the ladies. Like playing paper dolls. I almost wish I had more but then decide part of the fun is running out.

I've been attracted to that shade of blue for the last few years. And I'm trying to use the colors I like best. It's hard though, when everyone else posts glorious quilts in scrumptious colors. One of each, please!
My wrist is improving. I'm trying to determine if I need to build muscle or quit handwork. Fortunately I like machine piecing best.

Thanks, Marly. Isn't it fun how everyone has created such great color combinations from their own set of fabrics. They are all wonderful. My wrist is healing but my finger feels thick still. Darn it.

Hope your fingers and wrist heal quickly! There's no fun in not having full use. Still loving your gorgeous background colors!

I'm sorry to hear your hand is in trouble but hopefully you'll recover speedily. The circles are looking great, but I'm intrigued to see where you'll take it if you stop at six months.

Ann said...

Thanks, Audrey. I like these soft blues, too. Not sure what I will mix them with for borders. But it will be fun to channel you. I was able to bind a quilt recently but I use a different grip for that than I do for the circles. Ah, well.

Ann said...

Thanks, Kaja. I hope stopping now will let me use multiple borders. Not sure if the circles will be the center or part of the border.

Hi Ann! Your circles are beautiful and the bagckround too! x Teje

Thanks, Teje. Now to see what I can make with them.

Lovely circles Ann, Im also making these Quilty364 circles and Im additive to them LOL Im making mine up in to small quilts 90 squares in each one. Cheers Glenda

Everyone's are wonderful; such variation from such a simple design. What a good idea to use them in sets of 90 for small quilts.

It's funny, I find I get more aches hunched over a machine but I've discovered I enjoy machining much more standing up! Glad to hear you're wrist is on the mend, it's always best (and difficult!) to be sensible and give ourselves time to heal properly 🙂
