Here's what evolved.
On one hand, it's handsome {perhaps.} On the other, not the most cheerful baby colors. If it were larger I could easily give it as a man's lap quilt. But it's not. Nor am I planning to enlarge it.
Someone will want it some day.
Enjoy the day, Ann

I think it's beautiful! It would be a great quilt for a baby boy.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ariane. A baby boy quilt sounds good.
DeleteIt IS really good looking, actually. I love those brown blocks! I think you'll find the right person for it soon enough. All done? Now what?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it, too. The prints show up more in this combination than any other color set I've made. Not sure why. There are many quilts still in the works.
DeleteWe are all different, I really like it and my midwife daughter tells me neutrals are in with new Mums.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know neutrals are in. I thought it was only greys. Thanks, Kate.
DeleteBe still my beating heart! I've been dabbling in different genres, but scrappy still sings the loudest to me! So nice! XO
ReplyDeleteI'm finding I like scrappy best, too, Karen.
DeleteIt would look so great in a baby (boy or girl) bedroom with a nature theme Ann. Plus, a lot of people like to put little quilts on the floor for baby to lay on and this would go with most room decors. I wonder what it is about black & white and sepia tones that makes you notice details more? Just liked with photographs.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of nature themes. And I agree this set of colors shows the prints more than any other combinations I've made. I do envision all of these as very useable quilts - something to wrap in, through on the floor. Isn't it exciting to encourage young ones to love quilts!
DeleteI really like this string quilt! Quite striking with the different colors and the way you put it together. Don't think I would've thought doing it this way but it's great idea!
ReplyDeleteI like it, too, Judith. I just wasn't sure anyone else would. Nice to know I'm wrong.
DeleteThese blocks were made from all my string scraps last year, simply divided by colors. The easier ones made the first quilts and these are the leftovers. They worked better than expected. It's nice to have used them all.
I go with the idea from Lara B, iI made y first two grandchildren small sized floor quilts in darker colours, any spills etc wouldn't show, I figured.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good plan. Thanks for letting me know it works, Maureen.
DeleteYes they definitely will! One of my favorite baby quilts gifted to me for my oldest was a brown, gold and cream quilt. Perfect for little boys!
ReplyDeleteOk, Audrey. Since so many of you smarties endorses the idea, that's what I'll do. Thanks for the recommendation.
DeleteI think the quilt is beautiful! What will you be using for the binding? I think if you would use a red, blue, green, or yellow/orange solid binding, it would brighten up and finish the quilt nicely.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought as far ahead as binding. There is some black and white stripe left but I'll check out colors, too. Thanks for the great idea, Patty.
DeleteA great string quilt! Neutrals are always popular, it'll fit in with any decor! And perfect for 'tummy-time'!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter calls it tummy-time, too. Thanks for the endorsement, Linda.
DeleteHope this lovely quilt finds a loving home. Definitely would fit a nature theme. Thanks for linking up to #scraptastictuesday!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous Ann! I know a couple of people that had woodland themed nurseries that this colour scheme would be perfect for - I have a couple of small scraps I'd love to send you for a scrappy binding or back! One has little brown foxes and I have one with an earthy pinkish brown badgers sett print! They'd be absolutely spot on and I'd love to send them, so let me have your address!!!
ReplyDeleteI think the quilt is gorgeous. I love the tonal changes. It reminds me so much of nature- trees, bark, rocks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a vivid sight, Linda. It looks like a first choice of blocks rather than the last of the stack that it really is.
DeleteI think it makes a gorgeous quilt, no matter what becomes of it.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm always amused when my pre-construction opinions are so wrong. Guess who doesn't know best? :-]
DeleteThis is one of the coolest combinations - not one I would go to on my own unless, like you, the strings themselves instructed me to . . . LOVE IT!
