June Kaleidoscope of Butterflies Linkup

I finally started quilting this Kaleidoscope. So many days traveling but now there's a bit of time.

First lines quilted on kaleidoscope

With the deadline rapidly approaching, simple random lines will suffice. I'm alternating straight-ish and curvy lines. Finished is better.

When traveling, it's hard to keep up with my projects but it allows loads more time for reading blogs. Here are some butterfly patterns (and one moth) I found.
I started a Pinterest board to group these and other examples as they are found.

There's still some time to leave a comment on the Crafted Applique book giveaway.

Enjoy the day, Ann

Ann I do like your straight and wavy line quilting, doesn't hide the lovely fabrics!

Thanks for the links! Those FPP butterflies at Nicole's blog are gorgeous! Oh no, I have another idea...

What is the deadline for this quilt? It looks great, I love all these kaleidoscopes. :D

Looks like a great way to quilt the kaleidoscope quilt! I've been wondering what to do with mine.

Ann, I was going to ask if I could link up my moth and since you mentioned it... I did! LOL
I'm just fretting (arr arr) at the bit to be able to make a butterfly quilt.
Very often, I prefer simple quilting, especially when there is so much to a design like you see in kaleidoscope quilts. Yours is looking beautiful!

Thanks, Maureen. I've delayed quilting because I was trying to find a 'perfect' design. Not much is going to show up on these busy fabrics. Hooray for starting.

Aren't they lovely? It was fun to search the 'net for them.
Unfortunately, the quilt is now overdue. But it will be done when it's done. So many emergencies right now.

Thanks, LeeAnn. I can't wait to see what you come up with; it will be fabulous.

I'm glad you did! Love this moth. You'll have a kaleidoscope of butterfly pillows soon, I'm sure. (arr arr, back at you.)

A lovely simple way to quilt this, still lets those great kaleidoscope fabrics shine!

This quilt is very pretty. I really like your scrappy/intense piecing style a lot. I like the simple quilting on this, because it is so busy it really doesn't need a lot of extra embellishment! We saw tons of butterflies on our Sunday morning hike this past weekend, in Sonoma County, but they would not oblige us by holding still for a photo. There was one that was all black. Keeps me busy looking them up! Also some dragonflies, one unlike any I've ever seen before. Love the Pinterest board, too.

Thanks, Linda. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :-) Rather than saying I couldn't make up my mind.

Ann said...

Thanks, Sue. I agree with you; these are busy fabrics. I've seen some butterflies in the park lately; I guess the rain helps. The butterflies and hummingbirds look wonderful but I rarely get a decent photo either.

The quilt is lovely and I think simple quilting is the right call (as well as a pragmatic one). I like your Pinterest board.

I love the straight line quilting on this quilt. It is such a pretty quilt, I can not wait to see it in person soon. Sounds like you are back? Hoping to get in touch with you soon. xo

I can't wait to see the full picture Ann, this is going to be another spectacular finish!

I can't wait to see the whole picture either! I can never decide how to quilt anything. I guess if all else fails straight line quilting will work. The Pinterest board is a great idea. Had a hummingbird on the deck last night but I was not camera ready. And I've been seeing butterflies when weeding the garden, but again, no butterflies.

Love the butterflies. The color combinations in the quilt are just beautiful. Your straight line/curvy quilting in this quilt is great. I'm a free motion beginner and am always looking for techniques I can try and be successful at. Thanks for the inspiration.

I don't have any butterflies to link up, but what a wonderful idea! Everyone loves butterflies but they have no idea that we need to support them by avoiding pesticides and planting the native plants they need for chrysalis and feeding.

Wonderful and great colors. Love the quilting on this very much!

Thanks, Kaja. I was discouraged about the choice the first few rows but like it better as it continues.

Thanks, Sujata. I have no idea when I will be back to quilting.

You are always so kind, Stephie. I hope you have a wonderful graduation summer with your son.

A hummingbird buzzed me the other day when I wore a red aloha shirt. And several have been coming to the feeder.

I love the alternating straight and curvy lines on your quilt. They fit the pattern and colorful scrappy look so well. I didn't know you did a butterfly link up. (I'm clueless that way.) Thanks to Lara's fun mini blog hop, now I know. I've been planting flowers to attract butterflies and collecting little garden art butterflies at a local arts and craft show. I have to keep your linky party in mind.

Visiting from BuzzinBumble. I hope we're not too late in saving the Monarchs; so much of their habitat and shelter is gone. GROW milkweed!

KaHolly said...

I'm also visiting from BuzzinBumble, and boy, am I ever glad! I applaud your efforts! And I DO grow milkweed, however, we've had so much rain, two of my plants are not happy. I am sure a good dose of sunshine will help.

Love Butterflies, just gave a butterfly quilt away on IG.

I also love your wavy quilting lines. They are perfect for the kaleidescopes! So often after I finish a top I get stuck trying to figure out how to quilt it.

Lara is a talented designer. I was very impressed with the beautiful variety of projects in her book. But butterflies are especially gorgeous. I look forward to seeing your machine appliquéd version. My milkweed did not come up this year. I will have to get new seeds. Congratulations on your garden, though. Like you, my sister has a lovely retreat where we can sit and watch many different butterflies, hummingbirds and even fat, drowsy bees. Enjoy!
