Arranging the Rabbit

I cut template pieces until there was no more fabric. I'm not making any more either since this was leftover from a previous, more colorful quilt. The remaining made-fabric was mainly black, grey/white, brown, and orange. There’s another section of yellow and green that may make a third quilt. That’s enough for now. The point is to use it up and move on, not create more. Although the templates lend themselves to some esoteric arrangements,  I'm going to lay them out as circles. First step is to simply set them all out. Here's version 1.

Version 1 of orange & black Strips 'n Curves

The orange rows are too heavy on bottom. So version 2 moves the orange up the right side a bit.

Version 2 of orange & black Strips 'n Curves

Still needs work. Version 3.

Version 3 of orange & black Strips 'n Curves

And version 4.

Version 4 of orange & black Strips 'n Curves
The orange is going too far up the right side but I like the top right ring rotation. Lots to think about.

One more issue. Somehow... this is laid out in front of the oven. We're going out to dinner tonight! I must remember this trick for the future. Feel free to use it yourself. ;-)

Enjoy the day, Ann

Those are exciting blocks! I can't wait to see what the final arrangement is and how many days in a row you will have to go out to dinner! LOL!!!

Your technique for getting out of making dinner rivals your technique for making beautiful quilts!

I think I like version 1 the best because it looks like a sunrise. Very creative.

Thanks, Patty. The grey and black are your colors,, aren’t they? It’s tough to get around the kitchen and I’m overwhelming the house with projects. It needs a good cleanup. It we may have to die out again because I’ll be so tired from.allthat cleaning. Ha.

It is a clever way to get out of cooking dinner. And I’m impressed with the colors in this top. A miracle after so many years. Thanks, for writing, Holly.

Thanks, Julie. I’d forgotten I cut so much black and white. I think I used most of that fabric in these quilts.

You’re right. I didn’t see a sunrise until you mentioned it, Robin.

This is looking very exciting! Love the colours. I'm sure I've seen the centre arc cut as one, but you 've got much more to play with the way you've done it!

Thanks, Linda. I think these were the most elaborate template set. I didn’t use all of them with the previous quilt but decided to try them this time. Fortunately this is a smaller quilt. Ha.

Ooo! Love these blocks. My favorite is version 2. I just like the way the oranges are spread out in that one. ANY of them will work though. Striking quilt!

I really love your posts where you share your process with these scrappy quilt blocks. I love the first completed quilt in this series and it will be just as fun seeing the final iteration of this 'leftovers' one.

Thanks for sharing your 'out to dinner trick' clever.
I enjoy seeing your process. It's encouraging.

I love that orange circle, glad you are keeping it. I loved seeing your progression of layouts. It just kept getting better and better! And for leftover blocks, it all looks pretty amazing to me.:) I'm not sure your getting-out-of-dinner technique would work form me. My husband would probably just tilt his head and give me the look. Uh huh. Good one!

They are better than I expected after so many years plus being leftovers. Seeing variations always makes me stop and think... And I need to think. Ha. Thanks for writing, Janice.

I love the colours here! This is a real playtime quilt with all the possibilities for layout, I'm looking forward to seeing your final choice!

Interestingly, I like the first one best -- the suggestion of a horizon, the contrasting diagonals of the circles in the foreground and the light in the background. But also, the units themselves are so gorgeous with the gradients and the rich colours, you just say "wow." It's going to be wonderful!

Those are the kind I like to read best, too. This is turning out better than expected considering how old the made fabric is.

It was completely unintended but so funny when I realized what I'd done. It is good to look at possibilities, isn't it? We'd all do so.ethi g a bit different so I enjoy reading which people prefer and why.

I was hesitant about some of the circles but really liked that orange one, just like you.
It might not have worked with kids at home but it's easier when there's only two of us.

What a wonderful way to put it: a playtime quilt. It is fun to try different layouts. I always like reading what people would choose and why.

You aren’t the only one who likes that best. I look at it with new eyes when I read your reasons. The original quilt had many more fabrics so I didn’t expect this to be as interesting as it’s turning out.
