CCVIII: Strewing Roses

This is where I left off with Chinese Coins VIII. You may remember, these were cut for a guild demonstration that was delayed due to family issues. I decided the light blues would make a good background for the roses I'd always wanted to applique. These roses, though, are pieced.

They need stems and leaves IMO. My first idea was to make a partial wreath with the stems but it didn't work. {And I forgot to take a photo.}

Next I ran all the stems in the same direction but don't like it much better..

Third try put them in a triangle. Better.

Adding some length to the stems. They are turned under yet.

Next steps: turn the stems, and add leaves.

Enjoy the day, Ann

I've been absolutely fascinated by your coin quilts right along. Every one of them has been a feast and inspiration.
Can't wait to see where this one leads you!

Thanks, Gayle. I never thought this simple design would intrigue me for so long. I. Glad you like them, too.

Like Gayle I find this series fascinating and the more you work with this format, the more there seems to be to consider. I like this arrangement for the stems, almost like the flowers have fallen from somebody's hand.

Great creativity and inspiration. Are you going to put borders on the quilt? Just curious as to how far you will go with this.

Yes...roses!
I think when you give your demonstration everyone will be surprised at the versatility of Coins!

I have also been amazed by the different looks you have given your Chinese Coins Quilts. Love them. Like the scattered roses approach. It will be interesting to see the finished quilt. 🌹

I never thought this simple idea would hold so much interest. Funny, the roses give me the same setting you saw. I hope they improve with some leaves.

I haven't decided. I thought there was already a border. Sort of. But I'll look again when the roses are done... Or at least further along, Pamela.
Thanks for writing.

How kind of you, Cathy. I hope they enjoy the class.

Thanks, Linda. It's enlightening to find so many things to say with a simple idea.

Beautiful roses and against the blues they're perfect!

Thanks, Janie. They were fun to figure out.

The coins quilt is so pretty by itself, but the roses add such unexpected interest. With the roses added, the coins act as a background of grass and sky.

Like the addition of the varied angled stems and the leaves will make it even better. Happy stitching!!

I liked the idea of a low contrast Coin quilt but it was too empty. Unexpectedly, the background changed like you said with the rose stems. Thanks for noticing.

It was not the first plan but worked out even better. Thanks, Julie.

Your idea to add stems was a good one! Nice movement there now, I'm looking forward to the leaves going on there.

Oh, I am loving this!!! So looking forward to where you take it next.

I thought I left this note yesterday. I like the last one because it has such movement and gives lots of options for adding leaves. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Thanks, Maureen. This has evolved in ways I never considered back when I started.

Thanks, Preeti. It is very strong willed.

Thanks, Mary. Sorry I missed these last notes. You're right; it does give more leaf iptuons.
