Phillies ballplayers in unnumbered jerseys |
I bothered FO {that's Future Owner} for a list of his favorite players and their numbers. With a serious drop dead date and threat to add Giants players to the quilt. Ha. I'd feel guilty but it worked. He sent the list, I graphed the numbers and appliqued them to the chests. I thought they were perfectly straight but these two are slightly aslant. Whoops. It adds to the folk-art charm, right?
Adding numbers to the Phillies ballplayer jerseys |
This coming Tuesday is AHIQ linkup. Are you ready to share your words? I am! And I can't wait to see what everyone else has done.
Enjoy the day, Ann

Great quilt. Where can I get the pattern? Have a Grandson who would love this.

this is wonderful...numbers, too--amazing work. Yes, I've also learned, the hard way, to add small bits of applique FIRST! >>this is so gorgeous...hugs, Julierose
Congrats on such a wonderful ORIGINAL piece of work! Super fun and so personal for the FO. Great job.
The ball players are great. I've been thinking about making a baseball quilt for my husband He is a huge fan of the SF Giants. That block might be just the trick! I wonder if you could add detail to the background with the quilting. With parallel lines kinda like the way the baseball field is mowed?!
What a terrific idea for a quilt. I love this. I like to see cool stuff for boys. Fantastic job on this quilt. What boy would not love this on his bed? So creative.
Not being perfectly straight is good!!!
Future Owner is lucky! What a great quilt for a boy who loves baseball!
I think those numbers look just right for this quilt. Love your threat to get what you needed!
the numbers are a great touch - hooray for "real" not perfect
You make a good point that few quilt patterns interest young men. This is an original design. I guess it's a prototype since several men in my family have asked for one in their team colors. I'll try to write up a pattern after the new year.
You and Audrey have so much more applique experience. I'm only now coming to realize how much easier it is to applique to a small piece instead of the entire top. As a novice, I was scared to applique before everything was together. What if I got it in the wrong place or went over a seam allowance?
It's great that we can learn from each other. Some of us (me) are just a bit to hard-headed at times.
Thanks, Julie. Coming from the Build-A-Barn designer this is a lovely compliment. Thanks.
I think he'll like it. Funny how the more I personalize it, the more concerned I become.
We are Giants fans, too. We either attend their games or watch the on TV. My husband is overtly hinting he wants a Giants quilt before spring training. Since I know them better there are more ideas percolating. If we were closer we could work on them together. :-)
Good idea about the quilting. I chose one green because it had diamonds on it.
Thanks for writing, Claire.
Thanks, Dots. You're right. At least for my family. All the guys want one. Guess I'll be busy for a while.
Thanks, Maureen. Good thing since I'm NOT doing it over.
Thanks, Janice. When I found out how much he loves his Phillies, I wanted to make a baseball quilt. Over the years I've seen some clever ones but it was even more fun to design this myself. Working out lots of kinks and have amazingly found even more ideas.
Ha. It was the perfect threat to get some action. And the players now look complete. Thanks for writing, Janine.
Thanks, Barb. I tried to put them on straight but this is how they ended up.
This is great and I like the wonky numbers. Sounds like this won't be the last baseball quilt you make.
That would be great! Thank you
Patsy
As far as the men in my life are concerned, I'm in business for THEM for the next few years. Ha. Finally something they really like.
