Bars 3 Quilt Off to a Forever Home

Technically I should have finished Bars 1 first but these small quilts are much easier to carry back and forth. They fit into my minuscule bits of free time. Because most of the tops were sewed {for the demo that didn't happen} I can sew a few quilting lines at a time without worrying where I was in the process. There is less fabric to wrangle under the machine arm.

Bars 3 uses the last of the pastel strips with whites, this time alternating with whites and very light tints.

A friend of my grandchildren will have a baby sister soon. Gifting each child with a quilt seems more welcoming and inclusive so I'm sending the two small Bars quilts to them.

Binding and quilting Bars 3

They both have similar straight line walking foot quilting. After writing about "halving the quilting lines" several times, I finally remembered to snap some photos.

Quilting by "halving the space" with a walking foot

This one is bound with the same stripe as her sister's. It first appeared in Strippy Nine Patch, then became a binding on Spiderweb 3. It's a treat to use these beautiful fabrics and use them up. Pink was my mother's favorite color.

Love your pastel version of the Chinese Coin Quilt. Impressed by your straight lines of quilting! The pretty binding finishes the quilt off beautifully.

What a generous gesture to include both quilts. I love the binding. Thanks for the pictures of the quilting process.

The softer palette is so striking...and the quilting lines look fabulous!!

This is a lovely palette for a little girl. I absolutely agree with giving a quilt for the 'big' sister as well as the new baby.

Thanks, Deb. I hope they like them. The photo of this quilt turned out much better than the photo of the other.

Thanks. This photo turned out really well. They don't always... for example, the sister quilt to this is much nicer than its photo.

It turned out very well, didn't it? So nice to have a pretty binding waiting for this quilt. Thanks for writing, Linda.

I'm glad you enjoyed the photos of the quilting, Robin. It's easy to do. I'm liking these very simple quilting designs more an more.

Thanks, Mel. Praise indeed for a quilting maven.

Thanks, Kaja. I think they will like similar-but-not-matching quilts. Fun to send them in pairs. I must remember to do this again.

What a fun pretty quilt! I have done the same thing that is to gift the sibling(s) with a quilt if they had not received one before. Since the majority of attention gets focused on the new arrival a gift of a quilt to them makes them feel like they are part of the excitement. At least that is my take on it.

Thanks, Patty. That's my opinion, too. And who wants any child to feel left out?

Such a pretty, happy quilt. I am certain the girls (I hope I read that right) will love them. Two coordinating quilts that are not the exact same always seem so much cuter together. Great finish!

So bright and happy quilt ! I love the simple straight line quilting you made on it. It's very effective !

Thank you, Mary. I hope they are enough alike to remind them they are sisters and different enough to remind them they’re unique.

Thanks, Sophie. I hope it encourages the family to use them daily.

Beautiful! Such lovely pops of colors with the lighter tints. I really need to expand my solid stash and also, think about making smaller quilts. Always good inspiration here on your blog! Very sweet of you to think of the older sibling too.:)

Combining solids and prints seems more interesting to me now that I've tried all solids. I know I prefer mixing prints rather than separating them into reproduction, batik, modern, etc. They all go together. That said, this one work out better than "sister" quilt perhaps because of the whites or perhaps it's just the lighting of the photo.
I have a continuing need for baby and toddler quilts these days. Smaller dimensions makes them quite different than bed size quilts. Simply reducing the piecing sizes isn't enough. Lots to think about.

Love the colours in here, reminds me of the sugared almonds we used to have at Christmas in the UK.

Oh, I remember those. We called them Jordan almonds. What a lovely memory for both of us, Maureen.
