Pi Day 2019

Will we act in this world with respect for our founding conviction that all people have equal dignity in the eyes of God and should be accorded the same respect by the laws and governments of men? That is the most important question history ever asks of us. Answering in the affirmative by our actions is the highest form of patriotism, and we cannot do that without access to the truth.

~John McCain~

Celebrating Pi Day {3.14} this Thursday {3/14} - the best reason for using American date notation which I've always considered slightly backwards. Month/Day/Year is not as orderly as Day/Month/Year but at least gives us a day to celebrate circles.

What circles have I made in the past year? Mainly aspirational.

There will be loads of applique circles in the centers of the Shadow Stars as soon as I get my energy back. I thought I'd be much further along but still keep falling asleep. Plus, it's time to get the taxes finished. Not that I'm doing them myself; I just need to get them organized for the accountant. But not only do I have ours to organize, there's also the estate. It's tougher to do someone else's since I worry about forgetting a category. Getting sick put me way behind. Time to catch up.

Here are the three two-and-a-half centers I finished. I'm learning there is no such thing as too many pins when there's already a hole behind the applique. Those seams allowances like to wiggle.

Three blocks have center circles of flowers and birds.

Other than Jupiter on the latest Christmas stocking, I didn't make many circles last year.

Red velveteen stocking with white felt cuff has bells on the cuff, toe and heel. Appliqued sequined ornaments include purple mitten, Christmas tree, holly with berries, Christmas bells, Juno flying by Jupiter, and the Star of Bethlehem.

I'm looking forward to apple pie for dessert although not homemade. DH is bringing it home. I hope you're making celebratory plans, too.

Happy Pi Day!

Enjoy the day, Ann

I like the fussy cut centers. I still have not been able to get enough sleep as my cold lingers just enough to let me know I am not 100% yet. I hope you feel better soon. I am glad my taxes are done except for mailing a check to the IRS. They will get that in April and no sooner!

You blocks are looking really great. I love to visit your blog because you are always making something unique and it gives me new ideas to consider. Sorry you haven't been feeling well. I'm glad you're on the mend. Thanks for the pie day reminder. . . I have some rhubarb in the freezer that would make an excellent pie, or there's pecan, hmmmmm I haven't had a cream pie in a while - oh, and I've also got a big bag of frozen peaches. Decisions, decisions! Look forward to seeing what you choose for the other centers.

I just made a circles quilt. I always ask DH the engineer for math equations I've forgotten, like diameter of a circle for instance.

I hope you get better soon.
It's been windy here off and on so my allergies make me sniffly and sneezy.
Your stars look great and it's pi day! Apple pie and ice cream for me, thank you.

With a family full of engineers we celebrate pi day. The shadow star blocks are beautiful!

Tax prep for the accountant happening here, too. Not fun but definitely necessary. Having been sick myself, I feel your exhaustion. It takes time . . . hang in there!

Ah now, I never remember pi day (on account of thinking this is 14/3 rather than 3/14) but fortunately I have you to remind me. Maybe tiny bits of slow applique are just the thing when you're not full of energy; they certainly look lovely.

I was just thinking that the only way I think of Pi Day is when I see it on your blog. This I do remember: there's a pie festival not far from my house every year. But I don't wait a whole year to go to Lecompte and have some of the best pie anywhere. In fact, it's time to head out there. :)

It takes time to figure out which center each star needs but it's fun to work through the fabric.
We have had repeated colds this winter, too, and they linger much too long. Lucky you to have your taxes done. Ours are in progress. Getting sick really put us behind.

Thanks for the compliment, Robin.
I love rhubarb but it doesn't grow here. DH loves pecan. I hope you enjoyed whichever you chose for Pi Day.

It's great to have an engineer on hand for those pesky equations.

I hope you enjoyed the pie a la mode. Yum.

I hope you had a great Pi Day. Thanks, Em.

Smartest thing we did was getting an accountant. And I'm glad to live in this century where medical care has changed so much. Aren't we lucky!

I'll try to keep you posted annually. Wouldn't want anyone to be short of pie.
Hand applique is perfect when I'm snuggled in my easy chair. Sew a bit; nap a bit; have some hot tea; repeat.

I'll try to keep you posted annually, too. No one should miss a chance a pie. We have a shop called House of Pies. Loved it in college. Don't go enough now. Like you. I must head over soon.

I totally missed Pi day! But I love those blocks you are making. Just the right amount of applique for me! And Jupiter! gotta love it! cheers!

Pie is good any day IMO. I'm glad you like the blocks, too. They are coming along nicely although not as quickly as I'd hoped.

Thanks, Karen. I hope I can finish it this year.
